It’s easy to idealize the churches that we read about in the Bible. Surely God’s people in the first century, living so close to the life of Jesus, must have had it all together. Surely we can learn from their positive example.
If only it were that simple!
The first-century church in Corinth was, to put it bluntly, a mess. Beset by internal divisions and confused on all manner of issues-marriage, singleness and sexual morality; what they could or couldn’t eat; how and why their gatherings should operate; even the resurrection of Jesus and the very essence of the gospel itself-the Corinthian Christians desperately needed correction.
As the founder and apostle of the church in Corinth, Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to confront the church with its errors and to show them how to get back on track. These nine studies by experienced pastor and Bible teacher Matt Olliffe take us to the heart of Paul’s urgent message to the Corinthian church-a message that is just as pressing for God’s people today.
Suitable for individual study or for use in small groups.
