Description

Over three centuries after its initial publication, Nehemiah Coxe’s seminal work A Discourse of the Covenants remains as vital as ever in
understanding Baptist Covenant Theology. Paired with John Owen’s Exposition of Hebrews 8:6-13, this twentieth anniversary edition of Covenant Theology from Adam to Christ features updated content and indices. With this new edition, Coxe’s pivotal insights continue to reshape and reclaim the Particular Baptist perspective on Covenant Theology, ensuring its lasting influence for generations to come.

“In 1697, William Russel quoted extensively from Nehemiah Coxe’s A Discourse of the Covenants, “for the sake of those who have not his Book to inform them, nor are likely to obtain, because it’s out of print.” Coxe’s A Discourse remained out of print until 2005, but we should not judge its value by its dormancy for three and a quarter centuries. Rather, we can recommend it today by investigating its reception in Coxe’s own day, which easily shows that it was valued as the Baptists’ best treatise on the subject. Contemporary and subsequent Baptist authors such as William Kiffen, Charles Marie du Veil, Thomas Grantham, Philip Cary, Benjamin Keach, Richard Deane, and Benjamin Dennis quoted Coxe’s work and relied upon it.”
