This book is fantasy fiction. We believe it contains valuable lessons and themes but it may not be as explicitly Christian as the rest of our range. We recommend parents familiarise themselves with the fantasy books their children read and discuss the stories and themes with them.
Ages 10+
“What if everyone’s wrong about dragons?” Cairn asked. He barely dared to voice the thought. “What if dragons can be…trained?”
Farm-boy Cairn can hardly believe it when he is chosen to train as a rider for Star-King Elior.
Far from home in the mountains, where dragons lurk and war threatens, Cairn strives to become a great rider of Callenlas.
Does he have what it takes after all? And what is his friend Arunae hiding?
Book 1 (The Dark Star) is available to order here.
“The air of Callenlas carries echoes of Narnia. Your children will want a shelf full of books like The First Skyrider.” – Nate Morgan Locke, Christianity Explored Ministries | Speak Life
“Hess weaves together an incredibly compelling story. It’s like if Harry Potter met How to Train your Dragon, but better!” – Bethan Lycett, author of The Pearl of Great Price
