This book is fantasy fiction. We believe it contains valuable lessons and themes but it may not be as explicitly Christian as the rest of our range. We recommend parents familiarise themselves with the fantasy books their children read and discuss the stories and themes with them.
Ages 10+
When Princess Irene is sent away to live in a great old castle-house in the mountains, her life is dull until she happens upon a hidden stairway. But whatever-or whoever-she finds upstairs will lead her out of doors and into the mountains where only the miners are brave enough to go…
“I have never concealed the fact that I regarded George MacDonald as my master: indeed I fancy I have never written a book in which I did not quote from him.” ~ C.S. Lewis
This is one of the best fairy tales ever told, written by George MacDonald, a master storyteller. This book is the kind of book that will keep both children’s and adults’ attention as they wait to find out about what happens to Princess Irene and Curdie as they go underground near the kingdoms of the Goblins.
This Canonball reprinting includes an Introduction by Timothy Larsen: “Although The Princess and the Goblin is not an allegory, it is nevertheless a deeply Christian piece of writing…. Throughout his entire life George MacDonald was always trying to lead people to God, and it is clear that he hoped that this chief lesson of The Princess and the Goblin would be applied to the person most worthy of our trust and obedience, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Trust and Obey Him.”
